The Zodiac Spear

Filed under: Cosplay Costumes — Tags: — admin @ 3:51 am

Final Fantasy XII is a console role-playing video game developed and published by Square Enix for the PlayStation 2. Released in 2006, it is the twelfth title in the Final Fantasy series. The game introduced several innovations to the series: battles occur without a transition to a separate screen; a customizable “gambit” system automatically controls the actions of characters; and a “license” system determines which abilities and equipment are used by characters. Final Fantasy XII also includes elements from previous games in the series, such as summoned monsters, Chocobos, and airships.

Final Fantasy XII received universally high scores, and earned numerous awards in various categories from noted video game publications. Selling more than two million copies in Japan, it became the fourth best-selling PlayStation 2 game of 2006 worldwide. As of March 2007, the game has shipped over 5.2 million copies worldwide. A sequel, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, was released for the Nintendo DS in 2007.

If you’ve been playing Final Fantasy cosplay series on your PS2 for a while, you must have had the urge of upgrading your characters’ weapons as soon as possible. Having the ultimate weapons is a dream for every Final Fantasy player. Although it is not crucial in winning the game, it just feels great to have the best weapon for every character so that killing every enemy will be a breeze. In Final Fantasy 12, the last installment of the series on PS2, the strongest weapon happens to be a spear named the Zodiac Spear.

There are two ways to obtain this cosplay weapon. One method can be used to obtain it at quite an early stage of the game, while the other requires you to wait a bit longer.

For the first method of obtaining the Zodiac Spear cosplay costumes, there is a rule that you have to follow or else you this method will not work. You must not open four specific chests from the beginning of the game until reaching the Necrohol of Nabudis where the spear is located. The four chests are:

1. The chest in front of Old Dalan’s place at the southern end of Rabanastre Lowtown.

2. The chest in the Rabanastre Palace Cellar. Do not open the one at the southeast corner of the map. There will be either one or two chests that may appear there. To be safe, don’t open any of them.

3. The chest in the room at Nalbina Dungeons where you regain all your equipment back. There are more than one chest in the room so to be safe, just don’t open any of them.

4. The chest at the eastern-most section of the Phon Coast. There are 16 chests there arranged neatly near the shore. Don’t open any of them.

After you’ve resisted the urge to open these chests, the next is finding the Zodiac Spear which is located in the Necrohol of Nabudis. At the early stage of the game, do not fight any of the enemy here or you’ll die instantly. The strategy is to run as fast as you can while evading any of the attacks.

Once you enter the Necrohol of Nabudis, run for your life until you reach the Cloister of the Highborn. You can check the map to know where you are. From where you come in, take a right turn and then the next left. Run along a corridor heading north then take the first left. There should be 16 chests in this room, one of which contains the Zodiac Spear. The Zodiac Spear chest is the second chest from the left in the first row. If the spear is not there, you must have opened any of the forbidden chest mentioned earlier.

Remember, this is a one time opportunity only. If you have opened any of the chest mentioned before, you will never get the Zodiac Spear this way.

The other way of getting the Zodiac Spear is extremely difficult and time consuming as you rely on the chances of the Zodiac Spear appears in a chest in Henne Mines. The chest has a 10 percent chance to spawn, a 10 percent chance to contain an item and 10 percent chance to contain the Zodiac Spear. So theoretically, you’re facing a 1/1000 chance of getting the Zodiac Spear from the chest.

If you’re the unlucky ones to miss the first method, then what you need to do is to defeat 10 espers and complete the Mineflayer hunt. Then speak to the Geomancer in Jahara to have someone open up a secret area in Henne Mines. Get to the Phase 2 Dig area and look for an area not shown on the map. The chest can either be there or not. If it’s there, equip diamond armlet before you open it to be able to get the Zodiac Spear.

2010 Top Non-Anime Cosplay

Filed under: Cosplay Costumes — Tags: — admin @ 2:24 am

Last year in the United States was easily dubbed the year of Watchmen cosplay costumes. They were everywhere. It started in the spring, before the movie had even come out. And it culminated in the summer and fall, with large cons. I even saw a few Comedians, and an Ozymandias or two. Yes, 2009 was the year for Watchmen cosplay. But what will be the top non-anime cosplay costume inspiration for 2010?

One of the first movies that comes to mind is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which is slated for a late fall 2010 release. Harry Potter cosplay might have peaked a few years ago, but it could easily come back for a huge resurgence. Why? Because people not only create cheap cosplay costumes for conventions, but for big movie releases as well. If a cosplayer can do multiple events in a costume, they may be more likely to make one in the first place. There’s also that whole out of sight, out of mind thing. Harry Potter is about to go out with a bang, in movie franchise terms, and that puts the fandom back in the minds of cosplayers. I think we can expect Harry Potter cosplay to come back, for sure. But will it dominate for the whole year? Given the late fall release date, maybe not.

Another good contender will no doubt be Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Not only has almost every single Tim Burton movie inspired a legion of cosplayers, but Johnny Depp is a cheap cosplay magnet in his own right. Just think back to the insane number of Willy Wonkas and Jack Sparrows from years past. I’ve actually already seen a Johnny Depp Mad Hatter cosplay, and it won’t be the last. The reason? Tim has a tendency to have incredibly unique and memorable costumes in his movies. You see it once, and you remember it. It gives those who create cosplays based on his films a level of instant recognition at conventions that can be very appealing to some. Additionally, the movie has so many iconic characters that it will work well for those who cosplay in groups. I think we can expect a lot of Mad Hatters, Queens of Hearts, Alices, White Rabbits, and Cheshire Cats.

This is my opinion, so how about yours? Please tell me.

Pick the Perfect Cosplay

Filed under: Cosplay Costumes — Tags: — admin @ 5:04 am

Visit the Resources websites to immerse yourself in Japanese anime and the cosplay subculture. Watch anime shows on television, at comicons or other conventions and events or purchase anime to better prepare yourself for the adventure of costume play and to help create an image in your mind of which character(s) appeals to you most.

Pick several characters to potentially imitate. Consider character traits such as personality, dress, body type, height and moral code or ethics. Once you have chosen your characters, return to the Resources websites and print high resolution color images of those characters.

Choose a cosplay event or anime, manga, video game or sci-fi convention. Skip this step if your costume is for a local event or fan club meeting. After you have chosen an event, check with the event coordinator or sponsor for costume design rules. Some events limit costume designs to reduce accidents by restricting the size of accessories and the inclusion of real or replica weapons; restrictions on costume styles also occur to protect young children and/or event visitors who may find offense with more revealing costumes.

Choose a character and buy or commission a costume through a reputable cosplay  sale website or store. If making your own costume, buy costume materials. Costume materials include: fabric, hair dye or wig, face paint, replica weaponry, accessories such as headbands or belts, costume foam, boots or shoes, animal ears and others items to match your character’s image.

Build or sew together your costume. Skip this step if you bought a pre-made or commissioned costume.

Model your costume and add additional touches as needed.

Wear your costume to your event. Box your costume, and put on immediately before or at the event if you are competing in a cosplay costumes contest.

Assemble Cosplay Costume

Filed under: Cosplay Costumes — Tags: — admin @ 5:54 am

Find reference pictures to work from. In order for your cosplay costumes to be accurate, you will need an assortment of pictures from many different angles. If possible, you will want a combination of full body and close up shots in order to make out all the fine detail.

Obtain the necessary patterns. You may be able to find actual patterns for the particular clothing you are trying to make on various niche websites, but it is very likely that you will instead need to find a pattern that is as close as possible. You can browse the clothing patterns at WalMart, K-Mart, Joanne’s Fabrics, and other various department or craft stores. You will almost never find something exactly right, but you will usually find something fairly close.

Purchase the materials you will need to make your cosplay. Consider the convention hall when purchasing your fabrics. Cosplay costumes will need to be able to breathe well due to the hot, stuffy conditions they will be worn in, so definitely go for natural fabrics whenever possible.

Cut out the patterns. This will be the longest, most tedious portion of the project. Pin the pattern to your fabric and cut it out as per the instructions. Take your time and be sure about each cut before you take it, otherwise you may waste fabric and have to start over.

Sew the various pieces together. Again, follow the instructions of your pattern closely, as different cosplay costumes will require different techniques.

Try it on. Try moving around in it. If you think that you will be posing, try out some of those poses now and make whatever adjustments are necessary. It would be better if something fell off now than later when you are among thousands of people.

Cosplay Rules

Filed under: Cosplay Costumes — Tags: — admin @ 3:40 am

Every cosplayer must abide by a basic list of guidelines:

Outfits should not be so revealing as to warrant indecent exposure charges. All body parts should be covered and not require constant pulling, tugging, straightening, etc. of the outfit to keep them covered. A good rule of thumb is to not wear anything that covers less than what you would wear to the pool or beach.

Tsubasacon is a family event; while we understand that some cosplay characters wear more revealing outfits than others, you may be asked to “cover up” or modify your outfit in some way that is more modest in public areas.

Some of the hallways of the convention center, especially near Artist Alley and during busy periods, are narrow and extremely congested. If your cosplay entails accessories which may hinder hallway traffic, please design your cosplay costumes so that the wings may easily be removed in case you are asked to remove them.

While Tsubasacon may ask participants to modify their costume for various reasons in the public areas of the convention center, we realize that a lot of work has been put into the outfit. During cosplay events, such as the masquerade or cheap cosplay costumes judging, cosplayers are permitted to wear their cosplay in its original, unaltered form.

Alice in Wonderland is the name of a novel written by author Lewis Carroll. His book tells the story of young girl named Alice who falls into a rabbit hole and into a fantastic world of strange and exciting creatures. The story begins with Alice sitting near a river when a clothed white rabbit runs by her cheap cosplay costumes. Alice follows the white rabbit to a rabbit hole where she suddenly starts falling and finally finds herself in a hallway with several locked doors of different shapes and sizes. Through one of the doors Alice is able to see a very inviting garden but she is too big to fit through the small door.

After finding a key Alice drinks a bottle of liquid labeled “Drink Me” and shrinks to a size small enough to fit through the door, however, she is now too small to reach the key that she has found. In a small box Alice sees a container with small cake in it marked “Eat Me” and eats it hoping that she will grow back to normal size cosplay shop. Alice does grow in size again but she grows so large that she reaches the ceiling. Nonetheless, Alice can now pick up the key but, once again, is too large to fit through the small door leading into the garden. Sexy Sailor Cosplay Costumes

Many of the most popular colors include the classic navy blue, white, and even pink. If you want the classic sailor look you can choose a navy blue scoop neck cut with gold buttons on it. If you want a classic sailor look with an edgy twist you can select a pink v-neck cut cosplay costumes with black details. Again, with so many options out there, you are sure to find the perfect look for your budget, style, and body type. In addition, many of these looks come in plus sizes, making them a great choice for everyone.

Whether it’s a sexy siren dress for yourself or a cute little mermaid anime cosplay for your little daughter. Whether you can sew or you’re a glue gun expert, there’s something for all skill levels. There’s the enchanting siren luring sailors to their doom and the nice mermaid showing the local fisherman the best fishing grounds. Or there’s the scary mermaid pulling everyone into the deep who dares to swim in their waters.

I would suggest light make up, a pale skin tone, watery colors. It’s a nice idea to glue some sequins on your cheeks to mimic scales or put on some glitter give a wet effect. If you want to go more costumey, you can also paint a starfish on your cheek. Silver, grey, dark blue and green are again the colors of cheap cosplay costumes  for eye shadow. And did you know there is mood nail polish? It changes color depending on your body temperature as long as you wear it. I think that might be a very mermaid thing to do. Another great idea is wearing contacts. Something bright that gives you a mystical look.

Do You Want Cosplay?

Filed under: Cosplay Costumes — Tags: — admin @ 1:52 am

So you are thinking about cosplaying, but you don’t know anything about it. Questions such as “What is cosplay?”, “Where do I cosplay?”,  “What is needed to be able to cosplay?”, and  “How do I pick the right character to cosplay?” are running through your mind.  Hopefully this article will help you as you get started in your journey towards becoming a cosplayer.

To answer the question “What is Cosplay?”. I think Wikipedia defines it the best, “Cosplay, short for “costume play”, is type of performance art in which participants don costumes and accessories to represent a specific character or idea. Characters are often drawn from popular fiction in Japan. Favorite sources include manga, anime, tokusatsu, comic books, graphic novels, video games, hentai and fantasy movies. Role play includes portrayals of J-pop and J-rock stars, Taiwanese puppet characters, science fiction characters, characters from musical stories, classic novels, and entertainment software. Any entity from the real or virtual world that lends itself to dramatic interpretation may be taken up as a subject. Inanimate objects are given an anthropomorphic forms and it is not unusual to see genders switched, with women playing male roles and vice versa.”

Where do I cosplay? Majority of cosplayers in America are seen at different events such as conventions, and anime festivals. The largest event for cosplayers, outside of Asia, is the San Diego Comic-Con which is held in California, USA. Cosplay groups, as well as single cosplayers do dress in their cosplay and have photoshoots, or get together and have fun recording skits and plays that everyone can see. You can find some of these pictures and videos on sites like cosplay.com, deviantart.com, youtube.com, mangabullet.com, and many others. Recentally a cosplayer was on “American Idol” auditioning to be on the show. Sadly she didn’t get picked, but it was refreshing to see a cosplayer trying out. Honestly if you don’t have a problem with getting some weird looks from some people you can cosplay almost anywhere.

gothic-fairy-girls-cosplay-costumes

What you need to cosplay is simple. You need a character you would like to cosplay as, a costume, and a wonderful imagination. A lot of cosplayers don’t have a problem picking out a character. Most of them have the character picked out in seconds. A cosplayers costume isnt like any cosplay costumes you would see on Halloween. Quoting Wikipedia again “The object of cosplay is interpretation: one attempts to become one’s character much as a stage actor inhabits a role. Costumes are expected to adhere meticulously to the attire known to be worn by the character represented.” Every costume is a work of art whether they are bought online or made by the cosplayer themselves. Cosplayers often wind up teaching themselves different skills to put the costumes together such as sculpture, face paint, fiber glass work, even fashion design to get their anime cosplay costumes just right. An imagination is needed to be able to cosplay. You must adopt the affect, mannerisms and body language of the character, or characters that you will be cosplaying.

Hopefully this article will help you on your journey to becoming a Cosplayer.
